About the song

Dolly Rebecca Parton began her life in a small cabin in the Tennessee mountains, amid poverty and deprivation. Her father, though illiterate, was a profound inspiration of wisdom and will; her mother, frail but loving, nurtured her creative spirit with stories of Smoky Mountain folklore.
Out of love for her father, who dreamed of becoming literate, Dolly founded Imagination Library (1995) – a program that sends free books every month to children aged 0 to 5:

Distributed books to nearly 850,000 children in more than 1,600 communities around the world.
Previously, she initiated the “Buddy Program” which promised to reward 7th and 8th graders with $500 if they graduated, reducing the dropout rate from 35% to 6%.

Dolly Parton has made significant contributions to supporting education for children and the community, especially through the Dollywood Foundation and the Imagination Library. She focuses on encouraging children to read and reducing school dropout rates, while also providing free educational resources to families with young children.
Dolly always emphasized: “I don’t do it for advertising or rewards—I give because of my heart.” She shared with Vogue before receiving the Carnegie Medal that her philanthropic philosophy was built from her family: “taught to love, accept, and believe in something bigger than yourself.”

More than 100 million free books have been given away – a milestone in promoting a culture of reading in the community.
